Argentieri is named after the homonymous vineyard at L’Astore in Cutrofiano. The original parcel is about 5 ha with a south-east exposure. The terrain possesses a mixed calcareous texture rich of limestone elements, integrated in a soil containing some clay mixed with terrarossa, at just 35, 40 metres over sea level and about 23 km from the Ionian sea. The vineyard is trained according to the spurred cordon system. Argentieri 2005 is the result of the first vintage offering the desired high level of grapes quality, with yields of about 65/70 q per hectare. The selected grapes are entirely and carefully handpicked, avoiding the hottest hours of the day, and pressed within little more than an hour at the nearby estate wine cellar. After separate maceration on the skins, delestages and alcoholic and malolactic fermentations for the two varieties, the Cabernet Sauvignon, after having spent about six months in small French oak barriques, is assembled back with the Negroamaro and the wine left to rest in still tanks for 2 months inside our underground cellar at a natural temperatures of around 15-16° and a natural humidity of 75-80 %, prior to bottling and then resting for the most of the cold season.
